Six steps to great bathroom lighting

If you’re looking for some spectacular lighting to create the right ambience in your bathroom, this advice from John Fearon, managing director for Astro Lighting, will help you to choose:
1 – Plan your lighting, be creative and make sure that all the products you choose are IP rated for safe use in the bathroom.
2 – For every bathroom, large or small, three types of lighting need consideration – general, task and ambient.
3 – I would recommend recessed downlights for general-lighting purposes, as they will create a sophisticated ambience.
4 – Think about task lighting around the operational hub of the bathroom – the basin. Every basin needs a mirror so choose a good-sized, illuminated mirror.
5 – For a glamorous, hotel-like look, go for a bright wall light on either side of the mirror. This will ensure that you get light evenly from at least two sides to avoid unsightly shadows across the face.
6 – Last but not least, consider how to achieve soft, ambient lighting for a calming glow when you go for that well-earned soak in the bath. You can do this simply by installing a dimmer switch for the main lights, or by using recessed LEDs at low-level.
