eautiful materials are at the heart of the design of the Pearl kitchen,
made by Austrian kitchen company Intuo and available from Searle and Taylor. Core ash veneers give the distinctive pattern to the undercounter cabinets, balanced by the elegant simplicity of the Nero Assoluto 2cm granite worktops. In contrast to the warmth of the wood, the tall units are sleek and dark, shown here in matte black glass with a silk-like texture, surrounded by stainless steel. If black is too minimal for your liking, however, the glass can be specified in 4,000 colours. Cabinetry is made to measure and uses Blum Dynamic Storage features to maximise space. Kitchens from £35,000.
Design tip: This distinctive double island design needs a considerable amount of space, so is ideal for large, open-plan living areas. The essence of the look could be recreated in a smaller space by using the tall units with built-in appliances on one side of a galley kitchen and the undercounter cabinetry along the other wall, with a stainless steel splashback above, rather than wall cabinets.
