The shower in our house has become mouldy on the seals and walls. Can you suggest some ways to prevent this happening please?

Firstly, I’d recommend investing in a decent extractor fan. This will help to provide ventilation, reducing the chances of water build-up and therefore mould around the shower screen/tray. The new ‘Serenity’ extractor fan from Bisque would be a particularly good option to combat humidity problems. It works to ventilate the area constantly, 24 hours a day. It also has a ‘boost’ function for when the shower or bath is in use.

Another option would be to look into a silicone-free shower. Kinedo sells a range of enclosures and screens designed specifically to prevent the build-up of mould. The self-contained models don’t require any tiling, grouting or silicone sealant but are still stylish. From a design perspective, the Horizon cubicle is fab! It’s available in number of colour options including lime green, gold or black. Check out www.kinedo.co.uk for a model that’s right for your bathroom.

If you don’t want to make any drastic changes to your shower, there are some great mould-free silicone sealants, adhesives and grouts. Try Everbuild’s Forever White sealant, which guarantees no mould or discolouration for 10 years (www.everbuild.co.uk). Another handy tip for refreshing the look of grout in your bathroom is to use a grout colourant, such as Aqua Mix (www.groutcolourant.co.uk), which is available in white and various other colours; the epoxy coating will ensure a long-lasting, dirt-free finish.

Bisque’s Serenity extractor is 80% quieter than standard axial fans, is energy
efficient, and yet super stylish too. It has an Art Deco inspired design with
contemporary mirrored or matt finishes. £229. www.bisque.co.uk
