I like the minimal, Continental-chic wetroom style but am worried about splashes and puddles. Is there a solution?
Not many people opt for full wetrooms for the reasons you have given. Most decide to incorporate a frameless shower screen for added protection and a low-level or flush-fitted shower tray, which gives the desired look. If you have quite a small bathroom, I’d recommend investing in a preformed tray that can be tiled. It will give the room a more expansive feel, making it appear larger than it actually is, especially if you opt for pale, shiny tiles.
Alternatively, space permitting, you could use a Wedi Fundo shower kit. They come with a base and drain unit (which is tiled over), and the option of a wall kit in a spiral or round formation. Tilewise, I’d opt for glimmering iridescent tiles in soft oyster shades but that’s just me – you may want to go all glam with gold and black mosaic!
