Can you tell me where I can get a wooden shower tray?
Wood in the bathroom is a major trend at the moment, and it is a material I particularly enjoy working with. Moving away from white products that can sometimes appear clinical, timber helps to evoke feelings of warmth, comfort and serenity – attributes generally associated with luxury spas and designer bathroom schemes within five-star hotels.
There’s a common misconception that wood isn’t appropriate for use within wet areas, but that really depends on the type of wood that you choose. Opt for a high quality timber such as teak. It benefits from a naturally oily surface, which makes it watertight and antiseptic, great for maintaining a clean, sterile environment. Even better, timber products are warm to the touch and great for insulating heat, so when you step into the shower on
a frosty morning, your little toes won’t get a fright!
William Garvey sells a teak shower tray similar to the one you noticed in the June issue. The standard model measures 800×800mm, but rather conveniently, the company is happy to cater to bespoke requests. All William Garvey products are treated with a special sealant that sinks into the timber and fuses with it, to produce an exceptionally tough layer that is resistant to stains and makes the pieces easy to clean.
